NETAML: The 1st Workshop on Network Traffic Analytics using Machine Learning

In recent years, world-wide users have enjoyed diverse desktop/mobile applications driven by rich information, which is delivered by the emerging networking technologies such as Software Defined Networking, 5G and IoT. As such applications proliferate, however, it is increasingly challenging for network operators to cope with the complexity of network applications, dynamics of network traffic and non-stop security threats to network infrastructure. One of the core elements to the secure and scalable network management and operation is the in-depth, non-intrusive and timely understanding of network traffic flowing through the network infrastructure.

Albeit the growing number of AI and machine learning based studies on network traffic analytics, there remain many open questions due to the fluidity of the network flows, variety of objectives and security and privacy considerations. For example, there is not a comprehensive, open dataset for benchmarking the proposed algorithms and designs.

The NETAML 2020 workshop aims to provide a venue for the community to present and discuss the latest advances in traffic analysis, with an emphasis on novel machine learning based approaches. Given the expertise from IJCAI-PRICAI20 attendees, we see this an excellent opportunity for networking researchers to interact with ML/AI community to foster new knowledges and advance the state of art. We expect to have papers contributed by researchers and practitioners, as well as invited talks by distinguished experts. In particular, we will organize a competition (NetAML Competition, sponsored by Intel Corp., pending approvals) at IJCAI-PRICAI20 on machine learning based traffic analytics before the deadline of the workshop submission, and encourage participants of the competition to submit papers to and present their results at the NETAML workshop. We hope this workshop will catalyze the research and development of novel methods for network traffic analytics with rich datasets, vigorous discussions, new directions and fruitful collaborations.

Relevant topics/areas include but are not limited to

Authors are invited to submit papers describing original, previously unpublished work, not currently under review by another conference, workshop, or a journal. Full papers (between 4 to 6 pages, 10 pt font in IEEE format) should present novel perspectives within the general scope of the conference. Short papers (up to 3 pages) are an opportunity to present preliminary or interim results on hot topics in a poster session. Both full and short papers are published in the proceedings of IJCAI conference. All papers must include title, complete contact information for all authors, abstract, and keywords on the cover page. IJCAI reserves the right to remove papers from the proceedings that are not presented at the conference.

NETAML Paper Submission

Papers must be registered on EDAS and submitted in PDF format. Detailed submission instructions are available at the EDAS conference website. The authors submitting to NetAML workshop are invited to submit to a special issue with Elsevier Computer Networks journal.
